Laid off….again?!
Yes, I was laid off again. How stupid really…
After I was laid off in February, it seemed like a long time before a really good opportunity came by. I did a lot of interviews and all ended up being great, but took forever to get back to me. Seems like everyone likes to procrastinate, not just me. I finally went into an interview with this 1 specific company and she said that I seemed like a perfect fit, but I’d need to come back later to meet her boss and then they could make a decision….
I did the 2nd interview and passed with flying colors, I even mentioned Prague and they said it’s completely fine! She called me the next day to offer me the job. I was so excited and so was everyone else. I started working promptly 2 weeks later and luckily this place was in Herndon, so it’s closer to me than Reston [which is where I used to work].
The first day was great and everything seemed to go off without a hitch. Then came the boring, nothing-to-do, days that came after which I only thought of as “oh I’m still getting used to the processes and software.” This was not the case because I was basically paid for a month doing absolutely nothing! I did no more than half a day’s of work the whole entire month I was there. I constantly asked my boss if she had anything for me to do and most of the time it was “oh yea, I’ll email you some stuff soon” – which in the end, became never.
I went to Prague at the end of April/beginning of May and came home sick. That Monday was a “work from home” day so I “worked” and had a meeting with my boss in the afternoon. Little did I know, minutes after my boss asked me how I was feeling, she introduced the HR person and told me that I’m being laid off. The only good thing is that they offered me 2 weeks notice and 2 weeks of severance.
I went into work the next day, packed up my stuff and met with my boss in a conference room. I told her that I hate the company and don’t care to ever come back after today [that day]. After that day, I gave myself a week to unwind, forget about the pathetic excuse for a company and focus on getting a new job.
I was able to get my current job and start right after my severance ran out. What a great month long vacation that was…
[...] I was laid-off again [!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]. Trust me, I hate that company now. They did it when I was sick after my trip back. Luckily they gave me 2 weeks severance even though I had only been working there for a month. I deserved it. [...]
